Michael Kenny, MMT is a board certified music
therapist based in Dallas, Texas. He offers individual and group music
therapy for all ages. Michael has over 15
years of experience as a music therapist. He has worked with a diverse set of
populations including: psychiatry, autistic
and special needs children, Alzheimer’s and geriatric patients, developmentally delayed and physically challenged
individuals.
Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions
to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a
credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.
MT-BC stands for Music Therapist - Board Certified and is granted by the
Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) to identify music therapists
who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to practice
music therapy at the current level of the profession.
What do music therapists do?
Music therapists assess emotional well-being, physical
health, social functioning, communication abilities, and cognitive skills
through musical responses; design music sessions for individuals and groups
based on client needs using music improvisation, receptive music listening,
song writing, lyric discussion, music and imagery, music performance, and
learning through music; participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning,
ongoing evaluation, and follow up.
